FOR ALL THE WORLD TO SEE opens today at the Los Angeles Public Library.

Opening today, February 1, 2018 at the Los Angeles Public Library’s Getty Gallery is "For All the World to See: Visual Culture and the Struggle for Civil Rights," an exhibition funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and toured by the Mid-American Arts Alliance (MAAA).

The show examines the vital role that visual imagery played in the fight for racial and social equality from the 1940s through the 1970s. Organized by the Center for Art, Design, and Visual Culture at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and curated by Dr. Maurice Berger, the exhibition traces the emergence of attempts by some African Americans (such as the well-known photographer Gordon Parks) to present a more nuanced and accurate picture of African American life, relying on the power of the camera.

The exhibition runs through May 25, 2018 and the Library is open Monday through Thursday from 10am to 8pm; Friday and Saturday from 9:30am to 5:30pm; and Sunday from 1-5pm. Admission is free.

After months of keeping a tight lip, we are finally happy to be able to report our new partnership with the LAPL. Specifically we will be responsible for the programming and management of the exhibit spaces within the Central Branch Library in downtown LA, including the Getty and Annenberg Galleries. In addition however, we will also be revamping several presentations in the various branches all over the city, and at City Hall! We are excited to finally be getting to work on this, and you'll be seeing more news here from time to time to announce the exciting things happening at LAPL!

A wonderful write-up on Laura Parker by Ann Jastrab in All About, including a promotion of this Friday's talk at SPARC Gallery.

"Laura Parker has an exhibition of these prints up at Sparc Gallery in South Pasadena. As part of the closing reception for her show titled, "Imagining Infinity," she will also be presenting an artist talk on Friday, May 26 from 6-8. Where else would you want to be this weekend but sitting in the audience asking the artist how she came up with her ideas? Because Sparc isn't just showing the rubbings; they are also featuring a selection of her photo drawings."
